2012 Resolutions (and Giveaway!)
by bfcboutique
As 2011 draws to a close, for many, as with all passing years, thoughts are split between the past, present and future. People tend to take stock of their current situation, reflect on what has transpired in the previous 12 months, and of course, ponder what the upcoming year will hold…
We here at Barefoot Contessa are no different. Looking back we’ve had a pretty busy year! Like most, it’s been full of ups and downs – but lets focus on the positive shall we? We’ve done pretty well with last year’s resolution to start a blog – well at least we like to think so 🙂 Our Facebook page has also grown by leaps and bounds; at this time last year we had about 980 ‘likes’ and now we’ve more than doubled that at 2268! Our twitter followers have doubled over the past year too! We couldn’t be more excited and thankful to all our friends, fans and followers for all your support over the past year! In 2011 we also discovered how fun (and mildly addictive) Pinterest, instagram and tumblr are. Yes, there has been a lot of time spent at the computer.
In the offline world, we took part in our first craft show as a store, met and worked with some more lovely local bloggers and we were voted Best Independent Women’s Clothing Store in the Georgia Straight’s Best of Vancouver Poll for the third year in a row! Again, a huge thanks goes to everyone for all your support!!
We also have a lot of goals for 2012. Currently, a website (finally!), a third store (more on that soon) and a few other fun surprises are up our sleeves. It’s going to be an exciting year!
We also thought it would be fun to check in with the girls to see what their 2012 resolutions/goals were…
*please note: there weren’t pictures of everyone this time, so we used a few from our instagram account… which felt less creepy than stealing pictures from their facebook pages*
Kaleigh will be spending more time at the dog park. You will also find this Alberta-born girl taking advantage of living so close to the ocean, forest and mountains much more often.

Piper’s plan is to keep it simple this year and just drink less beer and eat fewer baked goods.

Kim has decided to forgo her usual ‘get more exercise’ resolution and exercise her mind instead – this year she will be reading more books and journal articles.
________________________
In the interest of not being disappointed if specific things never come to fruition, Stephanie doesn’t believe in resolutions – instead she focuses her efforts on to making general life goals.
____________________________
Brin has decided to stop procrastinating and leaving things to the last minute! We’re also adding ‘be in more BFC instagram photos’ to her list, since we don’t have any with her in them!
____________________________
Ashleigh’s resolution is to get back in to yoga and stretching!
_____________________________
Lauren also fails at being in our instagram photos, so we used a picture of a magazine she thrifted from her instagram account instead. She really geeks out about setting goals for the new year and actually does ‘themes of focus’ surrounding her goals each year – 2012 is all about action, acceptance and creating.

Nina, our lovely resident English major (on the left), is resolving to finish her novella in 2012!

2012 is going to be full of fun for Danica, who resolves to not let school completely devour her social life as so often seems to happen. She also seems to have escaped the instagram lens in 2011… something which will be remedied in 2012 (you’ve been warned Danica! 🙂 )

When she’s not busy losing 60 lbs, becoming a supermodel, dating rockstars and drinking champagne all day… Julia will be working on her business and making more (Potato Stamp) cards!!

My resolution is to have more FUN this year – say yes to more events and go out with friends more!
My resolution is to do something each day that makes me a better person! Whether it be smiling at everyone, opening up doors for people, exercising, making a donation, starting a new book…. just getting closer to the person that I want to be!!!
My new year’s resolution is to get healthier! Read more, be more active. (No more couch potato for me!)
My resolution is to finally get my driver’s license (at 23!) and to do more boxing/kickboxing to help reach my personal fitness goals for 2012!! Seeing as shopping is my only cardio, the second resolution should be very interesting..!
My resolution is to visit my girls at Barefoot Contessa more; especially at Commercial since I never get over there! And I would like to get in shape for my sister’s wedding in July (Lauren I am looking at you to drag me to some classes!)
For 2012 I would really like to plan several short holidays and a few weekend getaways- getting out to enjoy our beautiful BC!
In 2012, I’m going to try to live a more positive life in general. This means being kind to myself and kind to others, no matter how they react to me.
My resolution is to be healthier in all my choices of food, excerise, yoga, and overall lifestyle.
one of my resolutions from last year was to drink less beer. i think i did the opposite…
My resolution this year is to be happy and don’t let the little things bug me. 😀
This year I have two main ‘life goals’ (if you will). As a commonly named ‘chatterbox’ my first new years resolution for 2012 is to listen more often and more deeply. Second, I plan to crush my elementary teaching degree this coming June! Happy new year BFC!
A few resolutions of mine for the new year is to work on being a little less stubborn, be less of a workaholic, and make sure I’m making time for yoga at least once a week! 🙂
My resolution is to relax and enjoy life more. I usually take on way too much, and then end up with not enough time for myself. For 2012 I was to do more fun things for me, like painting and crocheting more 🙂
My resolution is to not be so uptight! I want to focus on just going with the flow and to stop worrying so much about my future. Instead of trying to live my life in a very defined path, I will just take it day by day and do the things I love 🙂
My resolution for 2012 is to train hard for the Vancouver Sun Run and improve my time that I complete in under an hour. Strong in 2012!!
My new year’s resolution is to come out of my shell of shyness. I want to be able to approach someone who I don’t know very well with confidence and be able to initiate new friendships.
I don’t normally make new year resolutions because they are hard to follow through. I usually pick three words that I would like to work on for the year. As for 2012, the three words are: patience, dedication and listen. No matter what challenges I face in 2012, I will remember these three words, remind myself and work hard at practicing them.
I am going to spend as much time with my loved ones as I can, and doing more of what empowers me, not what sucks the joy out of my life.
My resolution is going to be to (try) to stress less over things that I have no control over!
My resolution is to go back to the gym. I know everyone says that but i should and i will!
My resolution is to have more fun and do less thinking through! Relax……………unwind………..enjoy Vancouver!
My new year’s resolutions are to not stress over the small stuff and to get outside more during the rainy grey winter months. I could list several ways to better myself this year but I think this is a good starting point.
My 2012 resolution/goal is to travel to at least one of the places I’ve been meaning to visit (London England!!!!)
I resolve to take more time for myself which hopefully will include more shopping at Barefoot Contessa!

My resolution is to worry less, and be happier! 🙂
My New Year’s resolution is to be more productive by waking up by 9 every morning and inspiring creativity by taking a nature walk each week and writing for fun again.
To volunteer more. I can’t wait to volunteer at Canuck Place Children’s Hospice. The staff is incredible and the work they do is so inspiring.
This years resolution is to not let anything hold me back from attaining my dreams and goals. I am launching a small business this month and am determined to make it work! 🙂
I don’t make new year’s resolutions as I believe if there needs to be a change in my life, I get to work right then and there. Nonetheless, starting in 2011, I have been doing bikram yoga which has helped me manage my anger, frustrations, stress, etc, making me a much happier person. 🙂 Thanks for such an awesome giveaway! Love you guys. xox
My resolution for 2012 is to love deeper and more encompassing. In 2011 my love was, at times, judgmental and selective. I want to focus on eliminating judging people and focusing more on loving without boarders.
My new year’s resolution is to meet more people outside my friend group and to be happier 🙂
My resolution is to really commit to my yoga practice and get my mind & body into shape 🙂
My resolution is to balance all aspects of my life – school, work, friends, family, exercise – to make the year fun and fulfilling! And of course to keep enjoying the amazing surrounding of the city I live in.
My resolution this year is to focus on myself both physically and mentally! I want to get back into shape but I also want to stop stressing and worrying about things and just enjoy life!
oops i posted twice, i thought the first one didn’t go through!
My resolution for 2011 was to weed out the negative people from my life, I think I was pretty successful with it, now I want to focus on enjoying 2012 with all the positives like my family and my wonderful friends!
My resolutions this year include doing the 2013 Polar Bear Swim, sitting up straight and shopping & blogging more local!
I started running in 2011 (went through a breakup and needed something to help me get over it), I went from only being able to run 10mins at a time in July, and hit my goal of being able to run 40mins by the end of December! So in 2012 I am hoping to be able to get up to 60mins! And maybe attempt the Sun Run! Eeek!

I actually dont really believe in new years resolutions, I believe that you should set goals whenever you feel like it and make the deadline, what you are comfortable with:) Some of my more current goals/challenges are to take a picture a week for a year(im on week 21), Turn the tv off and be creative instead(ongoing), to learn something new (before my bday in July) and to be more spontanious!! (dont know how spontaniuos that is when its a goal…haha!!)
Happy new year!!!
My new year’s resolution is to undertake one creative project each week (even just something small!). I get so busy during school with academic work, which leaves a little time for partying and relaxing, but I never seem to have enough time to create – I need to change that this year!
My resolutions are to learn french, practice ballet and play the banjo.
My new years resoultion is to work really hard! (Not that I didn’t before!) As a new assistant fashion buyer, I aim to pay attention to every little detail and absorb everything I can in the bigger goal to one day become a full time buyer! 🙂 happy new year Barefoot Contessa! ♥
My new year’s resolution is to be a better cook and learn new recipes!
My New Year’s resolution is to smile and say hello to people I walk by on the street more. Our city could use more of this!
My health goal for this year is to increase my activity level to a sustainable pace for the long run, and to feed myself foods that are good for my body, mind and spirit.
My 2012 resolution is to do more nice things for my wife starting by giving her a GC to Barefoot Contessa!
My resolution is to be positive. I’m hoping for a happier and better dressed 2012!
Our family resolution for 2012 is to do more camping and activities out in nature (myself, husband and 2 little boys),
One resolution I have made, and try always to keep is this: To rise above the little things.
My resolution for 2012 is to take more photographs. My goal for this year is to learn to speak French fluently! Happy new year 🙂
My 2012 New Year resolution is to remain healthy and happy (and hopefully put in more time into exercising and eating healthy!).
My new years resolution is to finally live out my dream of owning my own boutique. I hope to have it up and running by fall 2012. It will be a lot of hard work, saving money, but very exciting! I want to be able to finally to do what I want to be doing with my life! Life is too short!
❤ Kastles
My new year’s resolution is to apply to many art schools and to persue my dream in becoming a photographer. In a couple of months i’ll be graduating from high school, and i’ve thought hundreds of times about the possibilities for the future; which schools to go to, and which careers to persue. After a lot of debating, i’ve come to the conclusion that i should follow my dream and become a photographer… Photography is my passion, and no dream is too big to achieve!! :]
My new year’s resolution is to live life to its fullest and learn new things.
This year, I would like to wake up the dormant, writing side of my brain that I’ve been neglecting!
My new years resolution is to shop exclusively at locally owned independent shops (muh like your own).
Cheers!
This year, throughout all the chaos and limited time because of school, I would like to start one hobby- a new craft, a tumblr page, or anything artistic that I can use to express some creativity during stressful times! Last year my resolution was to get in shape & go to the gym- same reso I have every year and I never complete it, so it’s time for a change!
Last year’s resolution was a success. I vowed to start swimming more, and as a result, spent some quality in the pool gaining strength and increasing stamina. As well, a pleasant result of losing 10lbs!
This year i plan to add another activity to my roster….I’m on the verge of which dance class to choose or if I should join a bowling league. Decisions, decisions!
For 2012, I’m aiming to pay off the rest of my debt and save for a trip to New York. =)
My new year’s resolution is to live more in the present moment with less worry about what’s going to happen in the future, or things I should have done differently in the past. I also want to sew myself a swanky new party dress, preferably from a vintage pattern. Oh yeah, and exercise more. For real this time 🙂
My resolution this year is to spend more time doing and developing the things that make me happy (for me… not for work or because I think that I “should”). Happy 2012 BFC!
So last year, my resolutions were wayyy too specific. I accomplished a lot last year – finished my Master’s, lost the weight I gained during cette Master’s and started back into yoga – but still didn’t meet a lot of them – so this yr, it’s all about just being satisfied and accomplished. Have some fun, be a little serious, laugh a lot, yoga it up, play well, eat really good food and finally – DRESS UP!
I don’t like to call them resolutions because it somehow seems to add so much pressure….. lets call them New Year’s “EVOLUTIONS”! This year I would like to become a more organized girl. Martha Stewart here I come!
I want to have an adventure! I’m graduating from university in May and I want to go away somewhere warm and fun with my close girlfriends. We’ve spoken about going for awhile, but this is the year we’ll finally go 🙂
My resolution for this year is to have an enjoyable last term at university before graduation!
My resolution from 2011 was to find a job in an area that focused on art…after a looooooong debate for almost 8 months I left my full-time job and started to work for myself making jewelry! So far so good!! Thanks BFC!
My new year’s revolution is to read more and enjoy more shiny things!
My resolution last year was not fulfilled due to the fact that I promptly forgot what it was three days later.
My New Years resolution is to better my school/life balance. Right now it’s tons of school with some life thrown in when I can. No more!
My new year’s resolution is to enjoy the beautiful city that is Vancouver where we live more often! Living here, we often take for granted how diverse and interesting it is and only realize it when traveling or moving away from home. Vancouver rocks!
My new year’s resolution is to open my mind and heart to all the possibilities of the universe!
My new year’s resolution is more quality time with my family.
My New Years resolution is to try and stress less. Life is too short to be filled with so much worrying about deadlines, projects, and papers and all these crazy, stress-filled times will soon pass.
I have monthly goals, each month has a theme eg ‘structured weeks’ and then I have specific goals for that month. But my general goal for the year is to focus on only a handful of projects instead of trying to do everything that I get asked to do! Plus my ‘living glamorously’ challenge is still going – I’ve given up basic tshirts for a year! Happy new year everyone !!!
My New Years Resolution is to be more thankful for all the amazing blessings in my life and to enjoy the simple things a bit more! xoxo
