French Shoe Buckle Cuffs

by Lauren W

While we were away in Seattle finding new pretty things for the stores, we of course had to pay a visit to My Mother’s Buttons where we always find gorgeous and unique pieces of jewelry. Although My Mothers Buttons is best known for jewelry incorporating Victorian and Edwardian era buttons (which we currently have as well) we saw these amazing cuffs made from leather and antique french steel cut shoe buckles and just had to get them.

A little bit of history/party conversation starters:

The buckles are all circa 1760-1910 and made from faceted and polished steel studs that are riveted to a backing plate originally made in England. They became a fashion in France as a replacement for the fine diamond jewelry the French monarchy confiscated to pay for the seven year war in 1759.
